It's asking about a medical condition, so it's probably a violation of HIPAA, and possibly of the Americans with Disabilities Act as well. What would be legitimate: "Our developer offices are open cubicles in the middle of a peanut factory. There's peanut dust everywhere. We know that some people have food allergies so we try to be up-front about this. In case we call and offer you the job, please consider beforehand whether you can comfortably work in this type of environment." A refusal then wouldn't necessarily say anything about the person's medical condition. | |

What if the business has a team that handles giant bags of peanuts, leaving peanut residue on your door knobs and the like? I'd be glad as hell that an interviewer told me this if I had a peanut allergy, which can be life threatening. | |
