I probably should have also specifically said that the OP should be sure he's talked with all the decision makers (without going over anyone's head) so that if/when the project doesn't meet the deadline, he can politely convey "I told you up front that it probably would. Perhaps for the next project we can try Ruby instead?" | |

Make a decent (but respectful) effort to see if the Pointy-Hairs are willing to make that trade, but if not just respect their decision and enjoy getting paid to learn something new on company time. | |
