Apr 4, 2016 at 3:09 comment added Raghavendra N @RobertHarvey we will host the software in our servers. Client's do not need to install and maintain it. For now we'll only upgrade the User interface.
Apr 4, 2016 at 3:05 comment added Raghavendra N @5gon12eder as I said the last update to the code is made 2 years ago and the project is not active. we cannot continue to use this for long term without further enhancements. We thought we can fund our enhancement work by having a small client base with the current version.
Apr 4, 2016 at 3:00 comment added Raghavendra N @Ixrec yes. The software will be running on our servers. we need to add enhancements to "client-interaction". It is not totally unrelated to the GPL'd project.
Apr 4, 2016 at 2:01 comment added Robert Harvey The length of time that a project has not been updated does not matter. When you say you will offer it as a service, what do you mean by that?
Apr 4, 2016 at 0:14 comment added 5gon12eder Legal aspects apart, what do you think will morally justify to use and make money with the work somebody else has created and shared with the public without also sharing your improvements of it?

Apr 3, 2016 at 23:19 comment added Ixrec When you say "offer it as a service" and "not distributing", are you saying your forked GPL'd code will run entirely on servers that you control, and all the client-side code you have to interact with those servers is totally unrelated to the GPL'd project?
