I'm an experienced JS developer and I've been involved in front-end development for multiple web applications. I've developed a couple of custom JS components to suit the project. I'm currently tasked with building a tree component for an Angular app on the Ionic platform.

My questions are:

  1. What are the key differences between regular JS UI components and Angular UI components?
  2. When building UI components for Angular, is the rendering handled by Angular's templating system or am I allowed to modify the DOM directly using jQuery?
  3. How will an Angular UI compo be instantiated and initialized?
  4. Can the user add a line in the template which triggers initialization of the component?
  5. Any key differences in the layouting/rendering pipeline when building Angular components?

Please edit the question to limit it to a specific problem with enough detail to identify an adequate answer. Avoid asking multiple distinct questions at once. See the How to Ask page for help clarifying this question. If this question can be reworded to fit the rules in the help center, please edit the question.

  • Don't modify the DOM directly if you want the component to be renderable server-side. For everything else you should just plow through the angular documentation, it's all in there. Also, for future reference, there's no way to ask "getting started" type questions on this site that won't be closed for violating the guidelines. Go elsewhere if you need that kind of feedback. – Joeri Sebrechts Apr 25 '18 at 8:45
