I've been working on a project where I'm trying to connect my device (with a BX3105 wifi chip) to the cloud to save some information.

I want to write a cell phone/web app where 100+ users are able to create accounts, connect them to a device I'm building (with the BX3105 wifi chip) which each user will buy and stream data from their device to their app, while saving the data in a cloud under the user's account so that they can retrieve it later. I am struggling to figure out where I should start.

Right now, I have the connecting to an MQTT broker which is then using Amazon kinesis to save data to my S3, but I can't control how the data is being saved nor do I know how to retrieve the data. I'm 100% a beginner.

I'm open to using other cloud services if they are better or a different method all together if there is a different and better way of doing this. I just am struggling to figure out where I should start. I think I want to continue using MQTT but am open to http if it is easier to implement. Which cloud services are appropriate for this task? And how do I go about connecting to them? What resources can I use to figure all this out too?

Thank you for your help!! I'm happy to provide any clarification if needed :)

  • You don't have to use MQTT or Kinesis or S3 for your cloud. You can write your own server software that you have full control over. – immibis Jan 10 at 23:42
  • We were hoping to not have to set up our own server, or are you saying I can write my own server software to have control over whichever online cloud service we use? Also if you have any suggestions for which services might be good, I would also appreciate that! – Rashmi Prakash Jan 10 at 23:48

  • Take a look at the S3 API documents. These describe all the ways you can interact with that service, you will need to write something somewhere to interact with it. Alternately look at the same API documents but for MQTT and Kinessis, they probably have tutorials on how to use them. – Kain0_0 Jan 11 at 4:43
