I'm trying to understand AWS Step Functions... so far I understand it as an orchestration among AWS Lambdas in case of distributed processing of a complex task: "Do this, then that, then wait, then this, end".

Are AWS Step Functions somehow useful when just calling a Lambda from within another Lambda? (At least to save cost of running two Lambdas in parallel.)

An example:

  1. A Lamda get-package is called via Amazon API Gateway
  2. A package is loaded from a DB
  3. Package is checked (belongs to the user? etc.)
  4. Tags are loaded for the package via another Lambda get-tags-for-package (synchron)
  5. A response is returned with package data and tags

Can I use step functions in this case?
