I'm working on porting an iOS app to Xamarin, where it's hoped that the Xamarin project will match as much of the logic and layout of the iOS project as possible.

One big area that the iOS project includes is the use of parent/child contexts in Core Data. As far as I can tell, there's nothing similar in Entity Framework.

Some online guidance has suggested using the repository pattern; other online guidance has suggested that this isn't a good approach (because "Entity Framework is a repository pattern").

I'm wondering if anyone has any specific experience or knowledge on this. In particular, what's the best way to replicate parent-child context relationships, as per Core Data, or should we be looking at a whole new EF-specific approach?
