If you are required to build a highly scalable system like Facebook would you prefer to use NoSQL database or a SQL database for the metadata.
I would use a SQL database for metadata i.e User Info, Profile Info, Images/Video Info etc because of the following reasons.
- The data is highly structured and related. The schema is well defined and this is a solved problem i.e battle tested.
- The amount of data is pretty small even if you account for billions of users, video titles etc.
Is this line of reasoning correct? How about using NoSQL because it will be faster to retrieve the data and is easily more scalable
