+1 for the comment of how they work to arrive at the answer is a critical factor. While I expected a modulus operator to be used, that's only because that's how I would have solved it. I was very open to seeing any other approach that solved the problem without creating glaring boundary condition errors (see my various comments about the approach with recursion....).
