But in this example, it's also obvious for the candidates that you're not looking for a cheap workforce to implement a feature in your new product, and that the criteria is not so complicated that it would take eight hours to obtain a solution.

I can't imagine asking the interviewee to create that kind of environment themselves rather than just give them an existing VM with everything all set up.
